Got Milk???

If you are an accomplished farmer, you might just want to skip this post all together. For the rest of you, please keep reading so you can celebrate my breakthrough accomplishment with me. We have two milk cows, but we have never milked. Now that Isabell was a Jezabell and went frolicking with our neighbor's bull at a very young age, we once again have a milk cow in milk. We have all of our animals in a pen by our barn due to fencing issues. This morning when I was feeding everybody I had a bright idea to see if Isabell would let me touch her milk sac. She has been behaving very well lately for us to pet her and she seems much more pleasant with people now that she has been in the pen for several weeks. Not only did she let me touch her, she didn't care at all that I used her for my learning curve. I pulled, tugged, pushed, and repeated even harder until all of the sudden MILK came out of her. I was thrilled. I pulled and tugged some more and you got it... more milk. I was SO pleased with my accomplishment. I didn't want to take much milk because I know the calf needs it, but every time I went by her I tried again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke or something. She cooperated and I got milk. All I needed was a kitty cat to shoot the milk into it's mouth. That would have been truly bucolic!!

grace and peace,
julie

I am glad you were able to get milk. There is probably enough for you and the calf. You go girl!!!

That is great! Our cow is pregnant and we know nothing about milking so keep me informed on how it goes, okay? Our cow is kind of restless when we pet her unless she is getting her feed at the end of the day. You are giving me hope for our "Missy". I must say, we are kinda restless around her too. She is pretty intimidating!!
