Name Calling

She has grown up being called Hopie Shalomie.  Now that she is older she prefers her given name...Hope Shalom, but she still giggles when she hears me call her Shalomie.   I am making a conscience effort not to call her Hopie any more. I don't want to embarrass her out in public.  I have always loved the name Hope.  If our last little one had been a girl, the name would have been Faith.  The men of my family were against naming the newest male child Faith so we all settled on his name being Seth.  We named each one of our children with the meaning of the name in mind.  It was important to us.  Each child has a story and I have spent their whole lives telling them the meaning of their name and their story.  Names are important and life stories are important too.  Sharing the story is a way to give a hertitage to each and every one of our children.  That too is important!

grace and peace,
julie, (which means lighthearted...young at heart...which is getting more important each and every day)!

I believe I have done name legacies for all of your children that I love and adore so much! Jacob's was so awesome - the generation that seeks the face of the Lord! Did you see our name legacy - Thomas & Concetta Young - under my post about giving? I should do a separate post about that.
Love you,
Concetta

I couldn't agree more- meanings are important!

At the camp we do each summer for foster kids that's a big emphasis- that we have the Christian meaning of their name with scripture verse hung on their bunk bed. We want to change something in their life that has probably be used for bad (being screamed at by a parent, etc.)to a strengthening encouragement!

I love that my husband's name, Jason, mean's "healer" - and as a remodeler he makes things new and beautiful!

PS> I love your latest photo header!

Hope is beautiful as is her name. :) Our 3 year old's name is Kylie Nicole Therese (long I know lol) She was named after two people. I nicknamed her "Kylie Kinoley," and she laughs and laughs everytime I call her that. I love it! I'm going to be sad when like your, "Hopie Shalomie," Kylie too will be embarrased and I will have to stop. For now... I'll call her my fun nickname :D *hugs*

Yes, Concetta,
You have taught me well in this area. I did see your name legacy for you and TJ! That was pretty amazing.

Thank you, Carmen adn Driving 3 Prince Girls! She is quiet a treasure.

Andrea Cheri,
What a great idea to put such emphasis on it at the camp. It is so very important. Keep up the good work!

Kristy,
Thanks for sharing about your little one. You might like to know that we all still call our oldest son Matty and our 16 yr. old Joshie upon occassion. It doens't seem to bother them at all. It is just something between the ages of 11 and 14 or 15 that it seems to be a problem. Well, that was the way it was for the boys...I hope the girl will be the same!
grace and peace,
julie

LISA,
Our whole family says, "Yes, and Amen" to that. Now all we have to do is convince Hope and Boaz and move close together and we should be in there!!!
Send our love to all,
julie
