Evening Time Fun

Since the colder weather has come our way, our family has taken to playing cards together in the evening. One of my favorite card games to play with the kids is Shang Hi Rummy. I grew up playing this game. There is a popular card game out now called Phase 10 and it reminds me a lot of Shang Hi Rummy. It isn't as complicated and it accommodates up to six players. Missy was giving Jacob pointers the other evening on his hand. Actually, I think she was wondering why we were all gathered around the table without any grub!!! Highly disappointing from her point of view!

I'll have to check into those games. I haven't heard of either of them. We recently started playing a card game called Blink though and it's pretty fun. I like it because it's fast. I don't have patience for games that take all night to play!

Is Missy sitting with her butt on the floor in that picture? She is such a big dog. I'm sure she thinks she is a lap dog though! :)

My family has always played Rummy. I don't know about the Shang Hi version. We would play every Friday night at Grandma and Grandpa's house. It was a standing invitation to any of the kids and grandkids. My mom would take Grandma to the store on Friday afternoon and help her make dinner for everyone, usually pizza. Then let the games begin!!! We stayed until almost midnight when we had to leave to pick up my dad from work (he worked 2nd shift).

I have lots of wonderful memories from around the dinner- turned card-table at the grandparents house. Your kids will have good memories too.

Dreamer,
Yes, Missy is sitting on her butt. She is a huge dog, but she gets in people's laps any chance she can. Sounds like you had so much fun on Friday nights when you were growing up. We too played cards when I was a child, but we didn't have homemade pizza!! I might just start incorporating that for my own family.

Nancy,
Have you ever played Pounce? It is a great fast paced card game. Look up the rules on the internet and you will have a ball with your kids.

Marci,
You are more than welcome. I hope you had a wonderful day.
