Laundry Room Organization

I have been working diligently the last few days to organize my laundry room. For those people who know me well, organization is probably my worst flaw in homemaking. I am not good at it, and I hate to take the time to organize anything. Our laundry room is odd because it is long and narrow. This makes it hard to store large items. I would love to have an extra freezer or refrigerator in there, but there just isn't room. As with all things in life, we make do with what we have and figure out the best use of our space.
I made it a high priority to keep the tops of the washer and dryer CLEAN from anything. I don't know what it is about teenage boys, but whenever they see a horizontal surface they insist that it needs to have JUNK put on it!

They next thing I did was to take our extra table that we use when we have guests and I put it beside the dryer. This gave me a spot to place my laundry detergent as well as a place to fold my clothes. I am still a little worried because it too is a horizontal surface. I have already made an announcement to the boys in the house that football gear MUST NOT be put on this table!!I placed a table cloth on it and now I have storage underneath the table. I am able to store my soap making supplies and my ice cream freezer. I also have enough room to put my vacuum cleaner under there.

I spent A LOT of time cleaning and organizing my shelves. These shelves are large and deep. They can become a catch all for all kinds of junk. I am the guilty party here. I put baskets on the shelf for cleaning supplies, and I left two empty baskets for junk collectors. I believe it will be easier to empty two wire baskets of junk than to clear out the whole shelf!
I have so enjoyed having this room finished. It is so much nicer to go into there with everything in its place. I am now ready to finish making this room pretty. I would love to finish the shelves and paint them. I also would like to add a wallpaper boarder around the room. Now that my window has been decluttered and cleaned, I think a pretty curtain is in order. This will go on my wish list because for now I am in the organizing mode. Next on my things to do list is Jacob and Seth's bedroom!!
grace and peace,
julie

It looks wonderful, Julie! The table is such a great idea. Wish I had room for one. And those jars of canned food like jewels. What a blessing! You did a great job.

Blessings,
Lea

Thanks, Lea. I am enjoying this room so much more now. Yes, the table has come in quite handy. I just don't know why I didn't think of that before now.

I'm so impressed with your bounty. I think you did a very nice job with the organizing too-and I'm with Ashley, when it's getting cold in TN, you can bring your skills to my house in FL. :-)
